OCCUPY SYDNEY – POLICE CONFISCATE PROPERTY
Posted by admin in property in sydney on 01 17th, 2012
At 3pm today, Inspector Jackie Smith from the Rocks LAC, informed Occupy Sydney that property would be removed, including filing cabinets, a table, a free library and shelving. Inspector Smith claimed that the property was creating an obstruction, starting ‘to resemble a campsite’ and that it was a threat to public safety.
Inspector Smith said that the orders had come from the police minister, Michael Gallacher, but did not cite any legal basis for the actions despite repeated requests by Occupy Sydney participants. Police also refused requests by the property owners to provide a receipt for their confiscated property.
Occupy Sydney has had a presence in Martin Place since the 15th of October, maintaining a peaceful pro-democracy protest against corporate greed and corruption – 13 December 2011.
